The Master of Science (Correctional Science) programme is the latest offering by the school. This programme offers a coursework-based degree for students who wish to obtain as masters degree via coursework and a research project. Ethical and humanitarian aspects will be implemented in all courses offered in this program as it relates to the treatment and rehabilitation system. Generally, the program aims to train students in accordance with the ethics of the profession of psychology, human services and research ethics in correctional.

THE AIM AND EXPECTED OUTCOMES OF THE PROGRAMME

Through this programme, students will be able to:

  • improve knowledge and understanding of concepts, theories and practices of correctional science and related areas in line with the needs of correctional profession.
  • practice knowledge and skills in the correctional profession based on hands on learning experiences
  • practice helping skills by demonstrating a caring attitude, friendliness and empathy in professional relationships with clients, community, and correctional capacity as correctional officer
  • apply the planning, implementing and evaluating skills on correctional practices and regulations.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

The minimum academic qualifications for the admission to the Master of Science (Correctional) programme are as follows:

  • a Bachelor’s degree witt honors in related field from UUM or any other recognized local higher learning institutions with a CGPA of at least 2.75; OR
  • a Bachelor’s degree witt honors in related field from UUM or any other recognized local higher learning institutions with a CGPA less than 2.75 with working experinecs in related field; OR
  • a Postgraduate Diploma in Correctional Science offered by UUM with a CGPA of 3.5 and above; OR
  • other similar qualifications and recognized the University Senate.

Oversea applicants must fulfill the English Language requirement by obtaining a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper based) or 213 (computer based) or 80 (internet based), OR a minimum IELTS score of 6.0. Applicants who do not fulfill the stipulated English Language requirements must successfully undergo an English Language intensive course.
