Bachelor of Social Work Management
BACKGROUND
The Bachelor of Social Work Management (BSWM) programme aims to produce trained and competent generalist social workers. This programme integrates the knowledge and social work skills in both aspects of theory and practice. The comprehensive curriculum was developed to suit the demands for social work skills locally whilst at the same time fulfill international accreditattion requirements and social work educational standards. Students who enroll in this program are expected to follow the curriculum as stipulated by the programme. The curriculum employs a generalist orientation in which students are required to fulfill a total of 25 credit hours of of University Core Courses, 86 credit hours of Programme Core Courses and 15 credit hours of Elective Courses. The duration of the programme is four (4) years or eight (8) semesters.
The University Core Courses are compulsory courses mandated by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education. They cover basic yet essential knowledge base such as nationhood studies, civilizational studies, language, writing and co-curricular activities.
The Programme Core Courses consist of compulsory courses which incorporate all the basic skills considered crucial for social work students to learn and master. The areas covered by these courses include basic social work practice, intervention skills and strategies covering the micro, mezzo and macro practice, history of the welfare sevice organizations, social work ethics and legal issues, human behavior and the social environment, psychology, sociology, communication, research methods, dissertation and field practicum. This program also offers a host of elective courses for students to choose from. Each elective course is tailored to specific practice areas relevant to social work and social services. They offer in-depth coverage of practice as well as other issues considered relevant to the social work profession.
The Aim and Expected Outcomes of the BSWM Programme
The aim of the Bachelor of Social Work Management (BSWM) Programme is to produce competent social workers who are able to apply the social work knowledge and skills in various areas of the human services.

BSWM COURSE STRUCTURE
To be conferred the degree of Bachelor in Social Work Management with Honors, a student is required to enrol and pass a minimum of 136 credit hours which cover four (4) components, namely University Core Courses, Programme Core Courses, Programme Electives and General Elective. Students are also required to achieve a minimum grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.00 for the Programme Core Courses. The programme structure is as follows:
